The Nudge! [03 Dec 2011|10:45am]

temporalwarrior
Getting rookie of the month for November is no surprise at all.

He's on an amazing pace. I don't think he could've kept it up if he was playing in the OHL or the QMJL last year. The WHL plays tons of games and it's a much more physical league.

On a side-note, I wish they'd give MPS minutes on the first line. It looks like Eberle and Hopkins are good enough to produce whoever they're playing with. Smyth-Horcoff-Hemsky have always had good chemistry. I'd like to see MPS score a few goals and I'm pretty sure he'd get it done playing with Hopkins and Eberle until Hall gets back.

Hopkins and Lander looking good. [12 Oct 2011|06:58am]

Hey guys. What're we going to do when Gagner back? Horcoff(the worst of our 4 centers right now) has a NMC, while Lander and Hopkins and Belanger have been clearly outplaying him. Too bad we can't have log-jams like this on the blueline!

well, that'd be one way to bring life back into the community [17 Sep 2010|07:27pm]

Sorry about that spam.

But hey, brand new season, exciting time! I pretty much gave up on this community (obviously) because I felt like there are so many other better, faster, more informative places to get news on the Oilers these days, but as always, if anyone wants to post here, please feel free.

And if you're feeling super dedicated and think you could make this a cool place to be, let me know, I will make you a maintainer.

Otherwise, have a nice day and go Oilers.

Really? that bad?? [25 Dec 2009|10:45am]

This morning I went to check what the schedule of games for today was, and I wish I hadn't checked the standings, I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw that we're bottom of the West, I thought I was still sleeping, probably dreaming, how did this happen? well, I think I wanna second what someone said here before, let's call it a season and just concentrate on scouting good players, is there anything else we can do?

Streak's over [15 Dec 2009|10:46pm]

oilblood87
Well, tonight the LA Kings have ended the Oilers history making streak, as far as I've heard, 4 wins on the road hadn't been done in 21 years, around the time of the 4th Cup, then the 5 wins on the road had never been done before, which surprised me cause I thought that would have probably been done back in the 80's, but that's beside the point, the guys did a great job on that last road trip, would've been cool if they had capped it off with a win in Oil Country but it's all good, here's to hoping for another streak this month, Go Oilers!!!

Horcs [07 Dec 2009|07:24pm]

oilblood87
Does anyone here think that Horcoff's finally living up to his contract? I've been reading at other Oilers fan pages that there's people that feel like he's just wasting space and he should be traded, personally I think he's a good player, I know that just cause he's won the last 2 games for the team doesn't mean that he's gonna be this years savior, but maybe he's finally getting to shine cause Hemmer's gone, who knows? all I know is that I'm glad he's stepping up, what do you guys think?

someone at the Oilers fan page over at facebook put this link http://www.lyrictr.com/stream1.html to watch the Oilers-Canucks game live from Hockey Night In Canada, finally get to WATCH an Oilers game instead of listening to it on CHED online, but my happiness was soon gone as the Oilers went down 4-0 within 9 minutes *sigh* still, GO OILERS!!!

Hemmer [27 Nov 2009|06:47pm]

So..... Hemmer's gone for at least 5 months supposedly, shoulder surgery (or at least that's what they're telling us) so... another downward slope this year? I hope not, in the end, GO OILERS!!!

Pre-season [18 Sep 2009|09:34pm]

oilblood87
I know it's not really the season yet, but 3 for 3 plus a VERY good debut from the Bulin Wall seems like a sign of things to come, Comrie wasn't bad either with his 4 assists, anyone else feel optimistic for the upcoming season? maybe P.Q. wasn't as bad as I initially thought, I know it's not the real teams yet but it's looking pretty good, hopefully this all carries over to the real games up ahead =)

Gator hangs 'em up [02 Sep 2009|12:28pm]

Jason Smith is retiring.

Smith will spend this winter in Ottawa with his family and might be used in a consulting or coaching capacity by the Senators during the regular season.

With Smith retiring, his $2.6 million cap hit is removed for the coming season, which is a significant boost for Murray, who was over the salary cap when he signed free agent forward Alexei Kovalev in July. With Smith's money off the books, Dany Heatley could re-join the club without Murray having to make any other moves.

To me, that about sums up why he chose now.

Video of the press conference from TSN.

Since it's still a week until rookie camp kicks off. [27 Aug 2009|12:21pm]

This is a cute story. Sam Gagner is playing in a tournament in London, ON with (mostly) some current and former Knights against three European pro teams. (Schremp and Pouliot are on the team too, and Jussi Markkanen is actually the goalie for the Swiss club.) Sam's dad, Dave, was a last-minute addition to the roster.

In game one:
Sam Gagner: 2g, 1a
Marc Pouliot: 1g, 2a
Rob Schremp: 3a

A couple newspaper articles about it:
Gagner turns back clock
Gagners embrace rare chance

Huddy? [04 Aug 2009|05:40pm]

oilblood87
So I just heard that Huddy's gone to the Stars, apparently they feel like  since he's got 5 Cup rings, he'll help them to a 2nd Cup, but looking back at the performances of the team since the Cup run in 06, I don't know about that, and I know that you can't blame everything the team does on the coaches but, I don't know, doesn't seem like it'll make any difference for them

Any thoughts on Smyth coming to L.A.? Honestly I think the only good thing out of that will be that I can finally get his autograph, but I'd like it better if he maybe went back to Edmonton

Good or Bad decision? [02 Jul 2009|11:59am]

oilblood87
Rollie has left the Oilers for the Isles, 2nd player from the Oil to do that in less than 3 years, now we've got Kabibhulin (not sure how to spell his name) for 4 years and 15 mil, do you think that Bulin will be a better asset to the team or should we have just kept Rollie?

2009 NHL Entry Draft [27 Jun 2009|12:10pm]

fullycompletely
Pretty good run down of the Oilers draft on the official site.

The important parts being, they took Swedish LW Magnus Paajarvi-Svennson with the 10th overall pick, and traded Kyle Brodziak to Minnesota for the 99th and 133rd picks.

Meh. I liked day 1 better. I hope there's a larger plan in mind, otherwise I don't completely understand moving Brodziak.

Moreau wins King Clancy award [16 Jun 2009|03:10pm]

fullycompletely
The old saying “nice guys finish last” isn’t true. Sometimes, they wear the C for a NHL team like the Edmonton Oilers that finishes 11th and misses the playoffs by six points.

Such is the case with Ethan Moreau, who’ll be honoured with the King Clancy Memorial Trophy — presented to “the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and who has made a significant humanitarian contribution to his community” — Thursday, as reported by Jason Gregor at Oilersnation today.

Between injuries and three straight seasons out of the playoffs, it’s been a trying stretch for Moreau, who has endured his fair share of criticism and disappointment in the seasons since the Oilers Stanley Cup run in the spring of 2006.

While some of that criticism for his on-ice play has been warranted and is duly documented here and elsewhere, Moreau’s commitment, and that of his wife Ornella, to many worthy causes off the ice in Edmonton has never wavered. That’s why he’ll get the Clancy in Las Vegas.

So, while fans can debate how well Moreau performs his duties as team captain, his leadership or whether he takes too many selfish penalties, I can tell you first-hand Moreau is a good man.

You can never have too many of those.
